Semen can be frozen and used at the time of ovum pickup. We routinely advice the male partner to give one semen sample before the actual date of ovum pickup. The given sample can be frozen and can be kept as a “stand by”. Incase, for whatever reason, the male partner cannot give semen on the day of ovum pickup, this frozen sample can be used and the IVF treatment cycle can be completed successfully without any problem. This advance freezing of semen sample is also useful for the male partner who fined it difficult to give semen sample “on demand”, and under stress. It is also useful to the male partner who fined it difficult to produce a semen sample in an unfamiliar environment.

The man can produce semen sample at home or in a hotel room and give it to Bavishi Fertility Institute for freezing and storage.

Freezing and storage of one semen sample before the actual date of egg recovery releases the stress on male partner about the “compulsory and timely production” of semen sample at ovum pickup”.

From above discussion it should be clear that as male partner may come only for one day, give his semen, sign the papers and leave. The treatment of female partner can continue.

Antagonist is a drug, which has similar effect to agonist. (The drug use for long protocol). The difference is they have immediate effect and reversal from the effect also immediate; hence they produce effect immediately on administration and do not require starting of treatment from previous menstruation cycle. That is the reason why sometimes this protocol is called as short protocol, but should be correctly called as Antagonist Protocol.

Here in antagonist protocol stimulation (Injection for producing more eggs) are started in the same treatment cycle without any pretreatment in the previous menstruation cycle, unlike long protocol antagonist are given in the middle of the cycle to prevent pre mature LH search and make the cycle more successful. As we don’t start any treatment in previous cycle.
